Buffer tanks are vessels that store large volumes of heat energy. They reduce short cycling and improve efficiency.
A buffer tank, or thermal store, collects heat energy as hot water, and stores it until there is demand.
Water in the tanks is layered (stratified), so that the top layers of water are higher in temperature than the lower.
Heat energy is drawn from the hottest layers whilst the remaining volume of water is being heated. This allows heat to be supplied on demand without the biomass boiler short cycling.
Buffer tanks utilise dense insulation to minimise heat loss.
With over a decade of mechanical heating experience and an expansive range of projects from domestic log boilers to large scale industrial biomass heating plants, you’re in safe hands with Shaw Renewables.
We provide turn key solutions, designing the right system for the application, procuring high quality, tried and tested equipment that is then skilfully installed by our engineers who have been trained to the highest standards by biomass boiler manufacturers.
