Key Benefit

Low-cost high-capacity cooling

Services Provided

Shaw renewables designed a bespoke cooling system to deliver 1000kw of cooling to the site for cooling post pasteurised digestate. The system cools digested from 72°C – 47-50°C before it is delivered to the digesters.

The system was containerised and packaged in our workshop before being delivered to site assembled and commissioned

Plant Room

Containerised cooling system comprising of 1mw evaporative cooling tower, 4000l cold buffer, water softener, chemical treatment system, loading pumps, control valves and bespoke control panel with PLC and interactive HMI including remote access.

Heat Usage

1000kw of cooling capacity for less than 180kw of electrical consumption.

More Information

The site post pasteurises all its feed stock to meet PAS100 requirements. The feed stock then needs to be cooled around 47-50°C before it is pumped into the digesters.

The client was using multiple air blast chillers and compressor chiller units to try and meet the cooling demand on site, however even with these multiple units they were unable to cool the feedstock effectively and the multiple units had a large electrical consumption adding large costs to the process.

We were asked to deliver a system that could cool all of the feedstock with a future uplift of 30% and with a lower electrical consumption.
