499kW – Apple Pomace & Maize
Installed by BioConstruct in : 2013
This suffolk farm supplies apples to supermarkets and a neighbouring fruit juice company. The fruit juice factory, located only yards away from the AD plant provides the apple pomace used in the anaerobic digester. Maize silage is grown as an energy crop and delivered to the site.
The biogas, once cooled is delivered to the onsite 499kW CHP and the resulting electricity is fed into the grid. The owners plan to expand the plant to meet demand, using a satellite CHP unit to supply heating and electricity to a nearby hotel and spa facility. The planned expansion will increase the 499kW capacity to 1MW.
