The Fröling CHP can be used as a stand-alone system or as part of a cascade, allowing you to build a system that is right for your energy requirements.
After over 50 years of leading the way with award winning wood biomass heating systems, Fröling are winning awards for their most recent ventures – electrical energy from wood. The newly developed wood CHP plant was awarded the “Energy Genius 2015 Innovation Award”.
After rigorous testing in their labs and years of successful energy generation in-house, Fröling’s first customer had the containerised CHP unit installed into their premises in 2013 and has been operating successfully since – yet more proof of Fröling’s technological reliability.

The Fröling CHP 50 gasifier is fuelled by natural, untreated wood chip with a moisture content of under 10%. Fuel is delivered via an auger feed to the reformer where it goes through 4 stages:
1.Drying – 200˚C
2.Pyrolysis – 200˚C – 600˚C
During this stage tar, coke, CO, CO2, H2 and CH4 are created
3.Oxidation – up to 1200˚C
During this stage the chemical products created during pyrolysis are partially burnt
4.Reduction – 900˚C
During this stage the wood chip is finally transformed into low-tar wood gas
Once it leaves the reformer, lower quality gas is burnt-off automatically with a gas flare.
The wood gas is cooled to 110˚C in a tubular water/gas heat exchanger and then ‘dry-cleaned’ in a fabric filter. The residual coal and ash is transported from the gas filter to an ash container via an auger (screw) feed.
The cooled and cleaned wood gas is then injected into the gas control line of the CHP engine.
Fully automated operation
Just like Fröling wood chip fueled boilers, the Fröling CHP’s daily operation is fully automated. An Auger feed moves the wood chip to the gasifiers combustion chamber on demand, gas production is regulated and ash is collected in a bin, allowing for minimal user interaction. All that is required is a simple emptying of the ash bin when prompted by the boiler itself every 6 weeks or so.
Dry gas cleaning
Dry gas cleaning eliminates odour and offers substantial savings in water otherwise needed for gas cooling.
